MONTICELLO - Walter Hunter, 87, of Monticello passed away at 9:16 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at Arbor Rose of Monticello.Walter was born Oct. 2, 1936, in DeLand, to Raymond and Mildred Hunter. He married Carolyn Jean Phillips in February 1956 in Monticello. She passed away May 4, 2024.Walter is survived by his daughter Julie Beals of Monticello; son Walter Hunter Jr. of Champaign; two grandchildren; his brothers, Kenny, James, Donald and Francis Hunter; and sisters, Wilma, Juanita and Wanda.He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sandra Fischer and son Phillip Hunter.Walter worked at General Cable in Monticello for 42 years. He was a member of the American Legion and attended the First Baptist Church of Monticello.Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, May 17, with a funeral service beginning at 2 p.m. at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, Monticello. Interment will be in Monticello Township Cemetery.Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church of Monticello. Condolenc
